An overview of motivational interviewing and approaches to therapy. Participants will review current research and program design from a family systems perspective. Participants will increase professional awareness and skills in treating individuals and families in recovery from co-occurring disorders; mental illness and substance dependence. The motivation interviewing and recovery approach to family systems will be emphasized
Attendees will:
1. Be introduced to the etiology of motivational interviewing.
2. Understand the role of the family in the etiology and treatment within motivational interviewing treatment perspective.
3. Understand the unique problems of MI as it relates to special populations.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Katheryn Whittaker, is a bilingual Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. Currently, Matrix Institute on Addictions as the Director of Clinical Services. Katheryn is a clinical member of and Approved supervisor for California Association of Marriage & Family Therapy (CAMFT), The International Family Therapy Association (IFTA), and American Association for Marital & Family Therapy (AAMFT). She has presented domestically & internationally in Colombia, Iceland, Peru, Turkey, & DC. Katheryn is an adjunct professor for Chapman University in Orange, Ca and Alliant International University in Los Angeles and Irvine, Ca. She is currently completing
her PsyD at Cal Southern University.
