Course Description:

Internal Family Systems, commonly referred to as IFS or “parts work”, is an evidenced-based model developed by Richard Schwartz that increased in popularity over the past 10+ years. It allows the mind to expand within its natural abilities and connect with the physical body. In this presentation, attendees will learn about the tenets of the model, the common part roles, and how they interact with one another, and the common goals of treatment.

Participants will gain an introductory understanding of the Internal Family Systems model in order to increase clinical skills. This will be done by expanding their awareness of the mind-body connection, offering additional insight into the abilities of the mind, giving an alternative perspective on understanding symptoms, and confidence in working with more difficult cases. Participants will leave with some tools for immediate use and are encouraged to seek additional formal training, if desired.

Learning Objectives

After the session participants will be able to:

  1. Participants will be able to name the six basic assumptions of the IFS model.
  2. Participants will be able to list the four goals of IFS therapy.
  3. Participants will be able to identify the three roles of parts and understand the role of Self.
  4. Participants will be able to describe the basic steps toward creating change.
