Course Description:

This is an overview on the use of psychiatric medications in the treatment of mood/anxiety disorders, insomnia and ADHD. We will discuss when to consider recommending medication. We will also discuss the different types of medication used, their efficacy in treatment of mood/anxiety disorders, insomnia and ADHD as well as common side effects.

Learning Objectives

After the session participants will be able to:

  1. Describe when psychiatric medications are indicated in treatment of mood/anxiety disorders, insomnia and ADHD.
  2. Compare efficacy and side effects of medications used to treat mood and anxiety disorders, insomnia and ADHD 
  3. Analyze treatment algorithms through presentation of clinical case vignettes.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:


Dr. Josephine McNary is a board-certified general psychiatrist, working with a variety of patients in her outpatient practice. Dr. McNary has her BA and MA degrees from Stanford University and her MD from Tulane University. From there, she completed her psychiatry residency at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute, Dr McNary is the founder of CalPsychiatry, an outpatient psychiatry group practice with multiple locations throughout California, including Orange County. Dr McNary and the psychiatrists of CalPsychiatry focus on collaborative care, and highly value frequent and meaningful communication amongst all members of the mental health treatment team.
