COURSE DETAILS

This presentation offers a clear look at how artificial intelligence is showing up in marriage and family therapy, both the opportunities and the concerns. We’ll explore how therapists can use AI responsibly in documentation and supervision, how simulation tools are helping students and associates build clinical skills, and how to guide clients who are already turning to AI for mental health support. Participants will leave with practical ideas for ethical use, examples of how AI can enhance training and practice, and ways to address client use of AI within a therapeutic framework.

Course designed for mental health professionals of all levels.


ABOUT OUR SPEAKER

Dr. Jay Burke serves as Chair of the Marriage and Family Therapy Division at The Chicago School, overseeing master’s and doctoral programs across Southern California. His work focuses on ethical and practical integration of artificial intelligence in mental health education and practice. A licensed MFT and educator, Dr. Burke presents nationally on clinical supervision, ethics, and technology in therapy.


SYLLABUS

Topic A: Overview of Current AI Trends in Mental Health & Therapy Training (30 minutes)

  • Ethical and legal considerations for clinical and supervisory use

Topic B: Simulations and supervision applications that build clinical competence (30 minutes)

Topic C: lntegrating AI tools in Practice (30 minutes)

  • Documentation and note writing

  • Discussing AI use with clients and setting boundaries

  • Group discussion and Q&A on practical next steps.


 EDUCATIONAL  OBJECTIVES

  1. To educate therapists about how to properly utilize AI in their practice.

  2. To provide ethical and legal considerations for AI use

  3. To build skills in utilizing AI through simulation, group discussion and Q&A.

  4. To build skills with high conflict co-parents.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES

In successfully completing and attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1.  List 3 legal and ethical considerations for the use of AI in clinical and supervisory practice

  2.  Describe 2 ways to discuss AI use with clients

  3. List 2 healthy boundaries to maintain with clients for the use of AI in clinical work

CE INFORMATION

Certificates will be sent within 2 days of CEPA director receiving the evaluation.

Note:  Participants are required to attend 80% of the presentation to earn CEs. 

Course meets the qualifications for 1.5 hour of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Networking time does not count toward CE credit.

Orange County Chapter of CAMFT is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (Provider #59405) to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and LEPs.  Orange County Chapter of CAMFT maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content.

Course completion certificates will be award at the end of the program to those attendees who sign-in within 10 minutes of the commencement of the program, sign-out after the program is concluded, and complete and return an evaluation form.
