COURSE DETAILS

Clients presenting with PTSD, depression, or personality disorders are frequently misdiagnosed — when the real issue may be an undetected traumatic brain injury that standard treatment simply won't reach the same way.

This workshop introduces psychotherapists to Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS): a neuroscience tool that may recalibrate overactive neural circuits and prime the brain to receive the therapeutic work you're already doing. When TMS and therapy are paired — even in separate sessions — research suggests outcomes are stronger and more durable.

Drawing on a current randomized controlled trial and real-world case vignettes, this workshop positions the informed MFT as an irreplaceable partner on the modern multidisciplinary care team — bridging the brain's biological recovery with the psychological work only a skilled therapist can deliver.

You'll leave with:

  • A practical TBI screening framework for clinical settings

  • Adjusted approaches for working with clients who have active brain injuries

  • Tools to support the client's full family system — including grief, identity shifts, and coping strategies for memory and attention difficulties

EDUCATIONAL GOALS

a) to demystify TMS and interventional psychiatry

b) to see evidence of how biology and psychology can be linked

c) to stimulate ideas about how different mental health specialists can collaborate
